Welcome to Episode 6,

Just When You Think You Know Someone

I’m Lisa Blank and this is How Did I Miss That?

Welcome back to Feature Friday!! Where I highlight a local small business with a story to tell.

I meet a lot of people while working and attending handmade markets and craft fairs throughout the year. Most of them I only see a handful of times and we chat about our businesses, different markets we want to try, and basic info about ourselves that’s normal to general conversation. Rarely do we delve deeper than, oh we only have one kid…you have 4…wow! So imagine my surprise when I found out one of my favorite wood working crafters was formerly in the military as an air traffic controller.

Her name is Priscilla Jones, she runs From Heart to Home Designs, and she’s a firecracker! Not only does she manage a successful business, but she and her husband are raising three amazing children.

Priscilla served in the Air Force from 2004-2008 and she describes her time in the service as the most challenging but rewarding of her young adult years. When she completed her service, she focused on raising her children while her husband continued his service to our country. All the while, she was in creative mode, if only as a hobby and not as a serious business yet.

That all changed in 2016 when her son was on a competitive basketball team. She dreaded buying shirts from the team shop because they never fit quite right. So as all good crafters do, Priscilla went out and bought all the supplies to make her own gear. That’s when the creativity started to flow! Bringing her ideas to life brought so much joy, she started making all the things! Boy, can I relate!! Shirts, cups, decals…basically any blank surface wasn’t safe around Priscilla anymore.

In 2018, Priscilla and her husband decided to sell their home and she made a few wooden signs to help decorate the walls. And that’s when her love affair with wood working began. At first, she didn’t know exactly where this love would lead her, but she knew it was her favorite medium and she didn’t want to stop. When her house was full and all of her friends and family had enough pieces that she’d made, she knew it was time to expand.

In 2019 From Heart to Home Designs was born. She started small doing pop-up markets and realized just how much she loved being a maker. And we love having Priscilla in our local maker community! Her beautiful woodwork is a standout at any market. Throughout the last 5 years, From Heart to Home Designs’ collection has grown to feature a unique blend of wooden framed signs adorned with both inspirational and snarky sayings. They also offer engraved leather journals and other items like earrings, DIY paint kits, and keychains. I personally love all the snarky sayings! She has notebooks that say “Employees I’m thinking about firing” and signs with “As far as everyone knows, we’re a nice, normal family”. Last Christmas we bought an ornament in the shape of Texas with the words “State Bird”…and a mosquito. So funny and so true! I also have some amazing intricately cut 3D pumpkins and Christmas trees that I love to decorate with…they’re perfection!

I know you’re going to want to find From Heart to Home Designs to see all of her fabulous creations for yourself! She and her husband will be at markets around San Antonio, Austin, and Boerne this year. Check out her socials for all the details. Her products are also available inside the Shoppes at 222 in Boerne, TX and online at fromhearttohome.com. I’ll provide all of her links in the show notes for this episode.
